A suspect was arrested Friday in a shooting that left one person dead and another injured at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and prompted a shelter-in-place order, officials said. John Fuentes, 18, was arrested by state police officers at a traffic stop around 2:30 p.m. Friday, said Troy Weisler, chief of the New Mexico State Police. Fuentes remains in state police custody. Weisler said he believes the suspect is booked at Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque. Charges are still pending, but Weisler said he expects the suspect will be charged with one count of murder and additional charges.…

00:00Westin: As parents, our children are priceless, which means that any value attached to them or their well-being cannot be enough. But there is a business built around early child care, with consumers and suppliers setting prices based on revenue and costs, and even investors putting up capital on which they expect a return. – I was kind of like at my wit’s end. At the end of 2024, I had taken a break from real estate because I was like, “I don’t know how to do this without full-time childcare.” OK… And I just remember opening up my journal…
President Donald Trump on Thursday issued an executive order titled “SAVING COLLEGE SPORTS,” a directive aimed at regulating the rapidly shifting landscape in college sports. Since 2021, college athletes have been able to profit off their name, image and likeness after a Supreme Court ruling on antitrust laws went in favor of the athletes. In the ensuing years, players have been able to get paid legally via third parties, and after a separate lawsuit was settled in June, athletes can now also be paid directly by their schools. The NIL era, however, has raised a variety of concerns for both…
But a joint investigation by KFF Health News and NBC News found that Sono Bello and other cosmetic surgery chains have been the target of scores of medical malpractice and negligence lawsuits alleging disfiguring injuries — including 12 wrongful death cases filed over the past seven years.Injured patients have accused the chains of hiring doctors with minimal cosmetic surgery training, of failing to recognize and treat life-threatening infections and other dangerous surgical complications, and of high-pressure sales tactics that minimized safety risks, court records show. Sono Bello and the other companies have denied the allegations in court. “These people promise…
Los Angeles – Immigration officials have been repeatedly spotted outside a Hollywood homeless shelter since May, leading staff to accompany residents from war-torn countries to work, errands and court. An executive at the shelter that serves people ages 18 to 24 said she saw two Venezuelan men handcuffed and arrested by ICE agents after they returned to the shelter from work. “There was no conversation,” said the employee, Lailanie, who asked that her last name not be used because she feared retribution from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She said about half a dozen immigration officers went up to the residents…
July 26, 2025, 7:15 AM EDT When Rick Huether strolls the floors of his four manufacturing plants — two in Maryland and two in Ohio — employees’ typical greetings such as, “Hey, how’s the family?” have been increasingly replaced with, “Hey Rick, should I be looking for a job somewhere else?” Huether, the CEO of Independent Can Company, has had to raise prices on customers twice this year and it’s the third time since President Donald Trump’s first term. “It’s frustrating,” Huether said of the Trump administration’s ever-evolving tariff agenda, which now includes 50% import taxes on the foreign-made steel…

One hundred twenty-seven people, 85 of them children, have died from hunger or malnutrition as a result of Israel’s siege of Gaza, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blocked all aid to Gaza in March, claiming that it was to pressure Hamas into accepting a ceasefire that Israel broke unilaterally later that month. This week, the Israeli government has blamed the United Nations for the situation, even accusing its aid agency of working with Hamas to restrict food from getting to people. This was not the first time Israel blocked aid from entering Gaza. In March…
UNRWA chief says aid airdrops a dangerous ‘distraction’, could kill starving Palestinians. The United Kingdom says it is working with Jordan on “forward plans” to airdrop aid into besieged Gaza and evacuate children needing medical care as Israel’s forced starvation and bombardment of Palestinians fuel global outrage. Two infants on Saturday became the latest Palestinian children to die from malnutrition. Hospitals in Gaza have now recorded five new deaths due to famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours. The total number of starvation deaths in the territory has risen to 127, including 85 children, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.…
